Whitetail deer among warm fall colors in the Black Hills

Fall

Cooler trails and colors worth slowing down for.

  • Prime wildlife viewing across the Black Hills: whitetail and mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and game birds.
  • Trail access for ATVs off the property continues into fall, with cooler, quieter riding conditions.
  • Fall colors along the Mickelson Trail and Spearfish Canyon make for some of the best hiking and biking of the year.
  • A great basecamp for Black Hills hunting season, close to local dining and gear stops in Lead and Deadwood.
Snowmobile trail access at Ponderosa Pines in winter

Winter

Fresh snow, first chair and trails from your door.

  • The Black Hills Trail System runs right past the property — 300+ miles of groomed snowmobile trails across 1.2 million acres of Black Hills National Forest, typically open December 15 through March 30 (trails groomed daily, snow-dependent).
  • Terry Peak Ski Area is about 5 miles / 10 minutes away — a natural winter basecamp for skiing and snowboarding.
  • No on-site rentals — guests bring their own sleds/snowmobiles and ride straight from their cabin; Black Hills UTV nearby can help if you need gear.
  • Cozy up after a day on the mountain or the trail with a fire pit night back at the cabin.

Ride to Sturgis

Stay beyond the inflated in-town Sturgis price zone while keeping the rally about 20 minutes away. Cabin 8’s Harley-Davidson theme is a rider favorite.
